Folio Society Competition 2012 (House of Illustration)

The House of Illustration / Folio society are inviting entries to illustrate; The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by the late, great Angela Carter.

Closing Date: Tuesday 10th January 2012
Entry Fee:
£15 for students (£25 for everyone else)
First Prize: a £4000 commission to provide seven images to illustrate the book for the Folio Society.

Entry Details: here (please note the first, most important instruction 'Read the Book')

The book (a bloody good read) is a series of dark, Gothic short stories (with a feminist agenda) based loosely upon Charles Perrault's classic Fairy Tales (Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, Rock-a-bye Baby etc.)

Tony has a well thumbed copy if anyone wants to borrow it, although we would recommend you buy your own copy as we can't rate it highly enough.

Here are some old jacket grabs (all of them truly horrible). You can see from these pathetic attempts that it's about time this modern classic was given a decent, sympathetic and exciting treatment:

Many of the stories from The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories were filmed by Neil Jordan as the Company of Wolves and you all know how great a movie that was!
